National Awards for The Movement Centre team

The Movement Centre team have won national recognition for their pioneering work at the prestigious Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Awards in London.
Targeted Training was recognised at the profession-wide ceremony attended by over 100 physiotherapists from across the country. Dr Helena Johnson, chair of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy said ‘The awards recognise physiotherapists who have shown innovation and excellence to provide even better services for patients. Dr Butler demonstrated both of those quailities in abundance and thoroughly deserves her recognition.’
Dr Penny Butler goes on to say ‘We are delighted that the work our team does here has been recognised. It is a great honour and we have a superb team. The whole thing has been a wonderful team effort.’
Child’s family raise over £10,000 for The Movement Centre

The family of a child who attends The Movement Centre for Targeted Training therapy has generously donated £10,005. Bob Robins, grandfather of Eden Robins (aged 4) raised the funds through his Redditch based company Reddispares Ltd.
Employees at Reddispares Ltd spent a year organising and taking part in events to raise the whooping £10,005. Bob explained that the generosity of some people was overwhelming and that everybody wanted to help raise money for such a worthwhile cause.
The fundraising came about because Eden’s family were so impressed with the work of The Movement Centre and the progress that Eden had made that they wanted to give something back to say thank you.
Only half of the children who come to The Movement Centre are NHS funded so this money will be of tremendous help and it will mean that children who may not have had any funding can now have the opportunity that Eden has had.
Fundraising through the families of children is so important and will become ever more so in the future. It doesn’t have to be a huge sum, a donation of any size is a big help and is always gratefully received. The Movement Centre depends of the generosity of people like the Robins family and the employees of Reddispares Ltd.

Charity ball raises £10,000!

Mercer and Associates Wealth Management Ltd hosted a charity ball on the 16th September and raised a fabulous £10,000 for The Movement Centre. The ball, which was also to raise money for St James’ Place Foundation, was attended by 160 guests who enjoyed a champagne reception, three course meal and evening entertainiment. The money was raised through a raffle and an auction with prizes generously donated by local businesses.
Staff and Trustees of The Movement Centre appreciate all of the hard work that Darren Mercer, Managing Director of Mercer and Associates Wealth Management Ltd, and his staff put into organising this wonderful event and are very thankful for the money raised which will be put to extremely good use.
Shortlisted for Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Award

The Movement Centre has been nominated and shortlisted in the Research in Practice category of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Awards 2011. The Movement Centre team has been invited to attend the Awards Ceremony in London on 18 November 2011.

The Movement Centre is celebrating its 15th birthday today. Since opening on 1st August 1996, our team of specially trained physiotherapists have helped over 450 children with problems of movement control achieve greater independence and lead a more fulfilling life.
Children have gained a range of functional abilities after a course of Targeted Training such as head control, sitting, standing and walking. We are sure you will agree that these are all life changing skills.
The Movement Centre team are very proud of the successes of the children over the last 15 years and hopes to be able to help many more children in the future.
Sainsbury’s local charity of the year!

The Movement Centre is very pleased to become the Oswestry branch of Sainsbury’s local charity of the year. This is a wonderful opportunity for The Movement Centre that will raise awareness and support from the local community, so that we can achieve our goal of treating more children.
Along with collections, Sainsbury’s will be displaying information about The Movement Centre in store and holding fundraising activities to raise money.
The Movement Centre relocates!

The Movement Centre is pleased to have relocated to new premises within the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital. We can now offer a brand new purpose built treatment room which provides very comfortable surroundings for Targeted Training therapy.
The Movement Centre offices are in a temporary building adjacent to the treatment room until the second phase of the move when they will both be together.
A second treatment room will also be in use once the move has been completed.
The move represents an exciting time for TMC as it embarks on a period of growth and the new larger premises enables a higher number of children to be seen and helped by Targeted Training.
We are still within the hospital grounds although now please drive through the main entrance and follow the signs for the Advanced Primary Care Trust offices. Disabled parking is available specifically for The Movement Centre outside the building.
Annual Awards Party a Great Success

The Movement Centre held the Annual Awards Party at The Venue in Oswestry on April 19th. Many children and their families who have recently attended The Movement Centre were present and the day was a great success with fun had by all.
The main award, The Lady Sue Trevor Award for the greatest contribution to The Movement Centre was presented to 5 year old Connor Lamb. Before he came to The Movement Centre he could only shuffle on his bottom. Last year he completed a one mile sponsored walk to help us raise funds. A fantasic achievement!
All of the children who have recently completed Targeted Training therapy received awards or certificates because they had all achieved their individual goals. Everybody had a brilliant time at the party, playing in the soft play area and having their faces painted, a few even enjoyed an easter egg or two!
Andrew Ford raises over £500 for The Movement Centre

Andrew Ford ran the London Marathon on April 17th to raise money for The Movement Centre. As Andrew is ‘not a runner’ as he puts it, he did exceptionally well and completed the marathon in 4hours, 42 minutes which is a brilliant time. He raised in excess of £500 for The Movement Centre, which is a fabulous achievement and will be a huge help to the work of the centre.
Andrew thoroughly enjoyed the day and it had an amazing atmosphere. He also said that the event itself was extremely well organised. Andrew is having a break now and then it’s time to start training for next year!

Penny Butler receives the Paediatric Physical Therapy journal’s Toby Long Award

Penny Butler has been selected to receive the Paediatric Physical Therapy journal’s Toby Long Award for the article ‘Refinement, Reliability and Validity of the Segmental Assessment of Trunk Control’. This is an annual award for the best manuscript published in Paediatric Physical Therapy. It will be announced at the Annual Meeting of the Paediatric Section of the American Physical Therapy Association which is being held in New Orleans, Louisiana, in February 2011.
