Archives for February 2020
It is always a fun session with Annabelle, making all the staff giggle. She had great fun playing with some
It was her second review of her course and we are over the moon to tell everyone that she achieved her goal of sitting hands free on a bench for 10 seconds. This is a huge achievement. Annabelle is also working on her hands free floor sitting, and did awesome at her appointment earlier in the week. Her therapy team could tell how hard the whole family had been working on her Targeted Training at home, with some improvements to her core strength.
Taking this into consideration the therapy team made a decision to lower the support in her standing frame to give her that extra challenge that she needs.
We look forward to seeing Annabelle again in a few weeks and seeing the progress she has made. Keep up the good work!
We are sad to share the news that our wonderful volunteer, Doreen Nicol, passed away last month after a short illness.
Doreen was an important member of our small team, coming into the office to support us every week. She gave so much to The Movement Centre, hosting our annual Canal Walk afternoon tea, climbing Snowdon, playing a key role in the organisation of our Golf Day, helping us to secure donations, grants and sponsorship and so much more.
Above all Doreen was a fantastic friend and colleague and she will be missed by everyone at The Movement Centre. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.
Our first ever Meet the team video is now live!
We want our families and supporters to feel comfortable when they visit The Movement Centre. We want the children looking forward to attending their assessment. This is why we are introducing you to our team. Check out our first Meet the team below!
Shropshire based company, School Shop Direct, have partnered with The Movement Centre to help support our work.
School Shop Direct is a leading, independent school outfitters serving schools in the Shropshire and surrounding area. They offer a tailored range of services with a traditional retail outlet at their Shrewsbury premises in Featherbed Lane, in-school shops, an online ordering service on their website and direct uniform supplies to schools. Directors Martin and Claire Berry were keen to support a children’s charity locally where their support could make a real difference.
“We are delighted to be able to work with The Movement Centre”, said Martin Berry. “We were aware that the charity had lost its NHS funding and we wanted to offer our support. We felt that by forming a partnership and supporting the charity on an ongoing basis we could help make an impact. We are looking forward to working with the team at The Movement Centre to support their fundraising and to raise awareness of their work so that we can help to make a difference to the lives of the children they support.”
It is fantastic to have the support of Martin, Claire and everyone at School Shop Direct. 2019 was a challenging year for The Movement Centre, so it is great to be working in partnership with School Shop Direct. By supporting our fundraising efforts they will help to us continue our vital work so that children with movement disabilities can reach their full potential!
The amazing Jaxon visited this morning for another review at The Movement Centre.
Targeted Training is split into 8 week blocks. Within those 8 week blocks, families take home their standing frame and tailored therapy programme, so that the Targeted Training activities can take place in the home.
Jaxon and his family have been doing amazing at home. He is currently working on his high kneeling and standing abilities. Once he is stronger and has more control in these positions, he will be much more independent. He showed us some great work in his standing frame today, having loads of fun with our Physio Student, Megan from Keele University, and his therapy team.
Mum also showed the team a few photos from home, where he showed some amazing new skills (while
helping with the washing, which is a bonus right?) He was very lucky this morning as we had just received lots of new sensory items that we purchased from Rhino UK. We were kindly supported by Wrexham Yale Rotary, who gave a grant for us to purchase the items. We can’t wait to share all the equipment with more children!
